Singapore fund management licensing (MAS capital markets services)
Singapore has become the centre of gravity for Asian asset management and family office capital, licensing fund managers under the capital markets services framework and offering a purpose-built corporate fund vehicle alongside it. For most international managers building in Asia, it is now the default.
The regulator
The Monetary Authority of Singapore is an integrated supervisor with a reputation for technical depth and consistency. It has tightened expectations as the sector has grown rapidly, particularly around the substance behind family office and smaller manager structures.
What the licence permits
Regulated under the MAS
- Provide fund management services under capital markets services licensing
- Establish and manage variable capital company fund structures
- Serve Asian institutional, family office, and private wealth capital
- Base regional operations in a leading financial centre
Who it suits
Managers building an Asian business who need a headquarters that institutional allocators respect without qualification.
Market access
Access to Singapore investors and regional standing across Asia. There is no Asian passport; other markets license separately.
What to weigh
Substance expectations have risen sharply and the cost of qualified professionals reflects intense regional competition. The bar for smaller managers is higher than it was.
