Fund and asset management · Latvijas Banka

Latvian fund manager authorisation (Latvijas Banka)

Latvia consolidated financial supervision into its central bank and now authorises fund and asset managers directly. The jurisdiction is small, its standards have risen sharply in response to past difficulties in its banking sector, and it works best for managers with a genuine Baltic connection.

The regulator

Latvijas Banka absorbed the former financial supervision authority and supervises fund managers alongside its central banking role. Governance and financial crime controls receive attention shaped by the jurisdiction’s recent history.

What the licence permits

Regulated under the Latvijas Banka

  • Manage alternative investment funds from Latvia
  • Provide discretionary portfolio management to Baltic clients
  • Serve Baltic and Nordic-adjacent investor bases
  • Passport management and marketing across the EEA from the Baltics

Who it suits

Managers with Baltic strategies or investors, and firms comfortable operating in a small market with a closely engaged supervisor.

Market access

EEA passporting for management and marketing, from a euro area member state.

What to weigh

The domestic capital pool is small and the fund servicing market thin, so administration and depositary arrangements may need to be sourced elsewhere in the bloc.

We run the Latvia application end to end

Whether you build from new or acquire an existing licensed entity, BrokLicense handles incorporation, the regulator application, the AML and compliance framework, safeguarding and banking arrangements, and the operating stack. You stay the principal. We do the work, in confidence, and stay on for compliance once you are live.

Cost, capital, and timelines depend on your model and are set out in a first consultation, under NDA, not published here.

Discuss your mandate in confidence

Every engagement begins under a mutual NDA. Set out the firm you intend to operate and the timeline you are working to, and you leave the first consultation with a recommended jurisdiction, the route to the licence, and a defined scope of work.
