Bahamas investment fund manager licensing (Securities Commission)
The Bahamas built its fund regime around flexible vehicle types aimed at private and family capital, with manager licensing under its securities legislation. It is a long-established financial centre with a private wealth orientation.
The regulator
The Securities Commission of The Bahamas licenses investment fund managers and securities business participants, and has strengthened supervision in line with international standards. It is accessible and experienced with private client structures.
What the licence permits
Regulated under the SCB
- Manage Bahamian investment funds including flexible private vehicles
- Conduct securities business under SCB licensing
- Serve private wealth and family office capital
- Operate from an established English common law financial centre
Who it suits
Managers serving family office and private client capital, particularly where the structure is bespoke rather than institutional.
Market access
International recognition, strongest with private and regional investors. Institutional European capital generally prefers other domiciles.
What to weigh
The jurisdiction fits private capital better than institutional fundraising, and investors accustomed to Cayman may still default to it. Substance obligations apply.
